MIST - Rice water and Rice Mask


Rice is a great skincare ingredient, it is extremely popular and can found in most of Korean beauty products. The easiest way to use rice in your beauty routine is to use it as a face mist to refresh and brighten the skin.


Rice Water can be used on all skin types such as dry, oily or normal skin. It contains vitamins such as B1, C, E, as well as minerals, that can help minimize pores, tighten skin, reduce fine lines, and also brighten your skin. Rice is rich in anti-oxidants that kills free radicals and play as UV barrier for the skin and also makes a great anti-aging ingredient.

It helps to keep acne at bay and keep your skin clear and healthy. Fermented rice water balances the skin’s PH level to keep it healthy.

Rice water removes impurities from the skin, smooth skin, unclogs pores and makes it baby soft. Has skin brightening and tan removal properties. When rice water is used as a face mist it makes your skin really soft and glowing.

You will need –

  • Organic brown, red, black or white rice – 1/4 cup
  • Filtered water – 2 Cups

To make rice water, first, rinse the rice with about a cup of water to remove any dirt or impurities. Place the rice in a bowl and cover with water. Let the rice soak for 4 hours. Now strain out the rice water into a clean bowl.

Your rice water is ready to use as a face mist. Simply spray the rice water directly on clean face throughout the day, also before going to bed and also spray it liberally on the entire body after a shower for smooth, flawless and glowing skin. You can add in few drops of tea tree essential oil if you have acne prone or oily skin or add a tbsp of jojoba oil for dry skin.

BENEFITS – Fermented Rice water is rich in amino acids, carbodyrates and nutrients and vitamins to relieve dry skin, reduces flaking, and helps to maintain the skin barrier. Rice water corrects skin texture, it smoothens textured skin and also reduces the appearance of dark spots, and hyperpigmentation leaving your skin bright and glowing.

The best way to use rice water for your face is to mix it up with other natural skin brightening ingredients like licorice powder, gram flour ( besan), turmeric, oats flour, or aloe vera powder to brighten the skin and also add a healthy glow.

You will need –

  • 2 tablespoons of flour. You can use gram flour, rice flour, or ground oats.
  • 3 tablespoons fermented rice water. 
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric ( optional)
  • Raw honey – If you have dry skin

To make the rice water for the skin – Wash 1/4 cup of organic rice to remove any dirt and impurities. Take the washed rice and add it to a glass jar with 1 cup of filtered water. I use basmati rice as it smells good and works great for me. You can use any organic rice of your choice. 

Cover the glass jar with the lid and give it a good shake to release all the nutrients from the rice into the water, let the rice soak in the water for 1-2 hours. After 2 hours, give the jar a good shake again and then strain the rice from the water. You just need the water and not the rice. Let the rice water ferment in the jar overnight for 12 hours. Use the leftover rice in your cooking or make a hair mask.

In the morning, pour the fermented rice water into an ice cube tray and make rice water cubes to store the rice water to use in your skincare routine.

To make a Mask:

To use – Add 3 tablespoons of rice water to gram flour and give it a good mix. Add in turmeric powder and use raw honey if you have extremely dry skin. Make it into a smooth paste and apply it to your face for 15 mins. Gently remove the mask and rinse off with water and apply a good moisturizer.

Tips – If the rice water is too strong for your skin or if you have sensitive skin then dilute it with water before using it in your skincare routine. Patch test to see if you have any allergic reaction before using rice water on your face.

Overnight rice mask for hair growth and amazing shine

Rice is a very popular beauty ingredient and it is extremely effective when it comes to good skin and hair care. Aloe juice is an excellent ingredient for your hair. It contains loads of proteins and vitamins that are essential for healthy hair growth. It deeply nourishes and conditions the hair to treat weak, brittle, and damaged hair. Aloe helps to protect the hair and treat thinning hair.

You will need –

  • Cooked Rice – 1/4 cup
  • Aloe juice or rice water – 1/2 cup
  • Argan oil – 3 Tbsp
  • Essential oil – few drops ( optional)

To make – Blend the cooked rice along with aloe juice or rice water and argan oil or any other oil of your choice to a creamy, smooth finish. Add in few drops of essential oil of your choice. To make aloe juice, simply blend 1/2 cup of fresh aloe vera gel with 1/2 cup of filtered water.

Apply the hair mask on clean and dry hair along its length and leave on for a minimum of 30 minutes or overnight. Follow with a shampoo that is free from SLS and parabens and a Conditioner as usual. If you are leaving the mask overnight then make sure the mask s extremely smooth and apply a small amount.
